WORKING TOGHETER!

Some of our doings:

  • 3 inter-continental vaccination campaigns: three continents (North, Central, and South America) from central Mexico to central Chile, and the participation of several other small cat working groups. These campaigns aimed to show the authorities and the general public the extent of the hidden threat of diseases transmitted by domestic dogs and cats, even with international media coverage (Mongabay link).

  • Various partnerships were established, including private landowners, rehabilitation centers (CETAS: RS/MA/TO in Brazil, CARDER in Colombia), and zoos in Brazil and Colombia.

  • Our actions have helped to create two new protected areas in the semi-arid Caatinga scrub of Brazil, an area in dire need for new protected areas. These new units will benefit savanna tiger-cats and other small cats among other native wildlife species.

  • Training of national and international students in wildlife conservation activities.

  • Building the next generation of conservation-oriented people: Targeting actions for children, as they are our future!

  • Hands-on experience for some children with wildlife conservation monitoring. We intend to considerably expand this action in some of our projects.

  • We defined the existence of a third species of tiger-cat, the clouded tiger-cat, and introduced it to the world, joining the other established species, the savanna tiger-cat and the Atlantic Forest tiger-cat.

  • We reshaped the entire distribution range of the three tiger-cat species with direct conservation implications.

  • We showed that the area reduction for all three tiger-cat species was > 50%, which requires urgent action planning and a dire need for reevaluation of their individual threat status.
